EMU Women - Green and White Caps Off Successful Weekend

AKRON, Ohio/SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team completed its second day of competition at the Akron and Meyo Invitationals, Feb. 7. The Green and White continued to turn it outstanding marks rife with personal records for multiple individual at both venues.



The top performance of the day came at the Akron Invitational, when Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio-Pandora-Gilboa) recorded a new personal best in the pole vault, finishing second with a jump of 4.17 meters/13 feet 8.25-inches. Braidic finished runner-up on attempts, as she cleared the same height as Michigan State's Lauren Chorny. Her mark now tops the Mid-American Conference and is tied for 18th in the nation. Additionally, it is the second-best vault in EMU program history, trailing Alysha Newman's record mark by just two inches.



Three other field events and one track event were contested at Akron, with a pair of top-four finishes in the triple jump. In the gold division, Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) placed third with a jump of 12.29 meters/40 feet 4-inches, while Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Chartiers Valley) took fourth in the blue division at 10.80 meters/35 feet 5.25-inches.



In the blue division weight throw, Adrienne Waisner (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) paced the team with a throw of 15.34 meters/50 feet 4-inches to finish eighth, and Helga Volgyi (Szombathely, Hungary-Savaria Technical College) finished 14th at 14.75 meters/48 feet 4.75-inches while Darcie Marion (Adrian, Mich.-Madison) threw 14.45 meters/47 feet 5-inches for 19th. On the track, Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) finished just one-hundredth of a second off her personal record, clocking in at 9.01 seconds to finish 11th.



At the Meyo Invitational, Eastern had its highest individual finish in the mile run. Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42) crossed the line in 4:44.69 for ninth place, and the Green and White also had a pair of personal records. Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing CC)) shaved six seconds off her time from just two weeks ago to finish in 4:53.45 for 20th, which ranks ninth all-time in EMU laurels. Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich.-Seaholm) also recorded a personal best, placing 49th in 5:04.05.



Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich.-Waverly) paced the Eagles in the 400m dash, placing 26th in 56.44 seconds while Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike) took 47th in 57.17 seconds and Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Adrian Wilcox) clocked in at 57.94 seconds for 58th. The 800m run also saw a pair of personal records from Rebecca Quaintance (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) and Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill.-Rockford Lutheran). Agata Klimovich (Minsk, Belarus-Minsk School of Olympic Reserve) led the group in 2:16.46 for 55th, followed closely by Quaintance in 2:16.85 for a two-second improvement on her time, with Mesa rounding out the trio in 2:19.96.



In the 3000m run, Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium-University of Leuven) was the lead runner for the Green and White, garnering a mark of 9:51.80 to finish 29th. Following the Belgian native were Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind.-Fremont) and Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind.-Penn). Aldrich notched a 26-second personal record from two weeks ago, crossing the line in 10:16.13, while Pottschmidt was just one second off her career mark in 10:31.85.



Eastern capped off the meet with the 4x400m relay, in which Yeadon and Roberts teamed up with Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) and Jasmine Jones (Greensburt, Pa.-Hempfield Area) to finish in 3:44.27 for ninth place, which is the second-fastest time by a MAC team this year.



The Eagles will return to action next week, heading to Geneva, Ohio for the two-day SPIRE Invitational. Action will kick off Friday, Feb. 13 at the SPIRE Institute and will continue through Saturday, Feb. 14.
