MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team was able to compete at the site of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships when it took on MAC rival Central Michigan University Friday, Jan. 30. The Eagles and the Chippewas finished the short dual meet with a deadlocked score, 74-74.
However, the highlight of the day for the Eagles occurred at the Elite Throws Competition in Findlay, Ohio. Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky) proved why he was invited to be included in such elite company, once again breaking his EMU weight throw record by two feet with a launch of 21.39 meters/70 feet 2.25-inches. His mark ranks atop the MAC, besting Kent State's Matthias Tayala by an inch, and also sits at eighth in the nation.
Eastern saw seven victories throughout the day, with five wins coming on the track. In the 200m dash, reigning MAC Track Athlete of the Week Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) won in 21.92 seconds, being the only competitor to dip below 22 seconds. Brown also competed in the long jump, finishing third with a leap of 6.72 meters/22 feet 0.75-inches. The event was won by Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka), who continued his senior campaign as a premier competitor in both the long and triple jump. Scott claimed a victory in the long jump with a jump of 6.96 meters/22 feet 10-inches, while he won the triple jump with a mark of 15.23 meter/49 feet 11.75-inches, winning by nearly eight feet.
The Eagles saw a pair of personal records in the weight throw, with Andrew Wentz (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) and Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill.-Williamsville) finishing third and fourth behind a pair of top-notch Central Michigan throwers. Wentz improved on his career mark by a whopping six feet, throwing 18.18 meters/59 feet 7.75-inches for third place, while Williams finished fourth with a throw of 17.92 meters/58 feet 9.50-inches. Williams went on to compete in the shot put, finishing fourth with a throw of 15.33 meters/50 feet 3.50-inches. Travis Harris (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) paced the Eagles in the event, throwing 17.02 meters/55 feet 10.25-inches, and Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio-River Valley) took second at 16.58 meters/54 feet 4.75-inches.

Freshman Brandon Bolden (Solon, Ohio-Solon) swept in for fourth in 7.05 seconds, and Pedro Delgado (Southfield, Mich.-Brother Rice) took fifth in 7.06 seconds. In the 400m, the Eagles surrendered just the first-place spot as Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis.-Bradford) led the way for the Green and White in 49.81 seconds for second place. One more individual event was run on the track, with Steve Hammond (Warsaw, Ohio-River View) recording a personal-best 8:51.35 in the 3000m.
Eastern entered the final event of the day, the 4x400m relay, down two points to the Chippewas.
