GVSU Men Top Lansing Invitational

LANSING, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's cross country team finished first at the 2014 Lansing Invitational, hosted by Lansing Community College Saturday afternoon.
The Laker men's team scored 47 points, finishing 12 points ahead of second-place finisher Calvin College in the 20-team event. Peter Tomkiewicz finished as the highest placing Laker in the meet, completing the 8k course in a time of 25:52.0 to place third.
Coming in after the redshirt sophomore in the event was Joe Cecil in eighth (26:16.7), Greg Madendorp in 10th (26:21.7), David Arenz in 11th (26:22.0), and David Powell in 20th (26:39.0). All five of the Laker men's runners scored for the team, easily securing first place for GVSU.
Natalie Nelson also represented Grand Valley State in the women's competition, crossing the finish line of the 5k race in 42nd place with a time of 20:27.6.
Grand Valley State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 10, when they head to Muskegon, Mich. to ace at the Jayhawk Invitational, hosted by Muskegon Community College.
