ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Erin Finn (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) of the top-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 30).
Finn earned the honor after a runner-up finish among a field of 207 competitors at last weekend's 5K Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown with a time of 16:51, a personal collegiate best. She led the way for the Wolverines, who placed a trio of runners in the top 10 for a team victory with a score of 55 points, beating out five other ranked programs.
This week's award gives Finn the conference honor in back-to-back weeks. Prior to last week's recognition, she had not been recognized as the conference's athlete of the week despite claiming Big Ten Athlete and Freshman of the Year honors in addition to being All Big-Ten first team in 2013.
Junior Shannon Osika (Waterford, Mich./Mott) was awarded the season's first conference honor (Sept. 2) after her performance at the Michigan Open, giving the Wolverines three of the season's first five awards.
The Wolverines will enjoy a short break from competition before traveling to Terre Haute, Ind., the site of the NCAA Championships, for NCAA Pre-Nationals on Oct. 18.
