ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Erin Finn (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) of the top-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 23).
Finn earned the honor after taking the individual title among a field of 77 runners at last weekend's 6K Big Ten Preview event with a time of 20:36.41. She led the way for the Wolverines, who placed four runners in the top five and seven in the top ten, to a team victory with a near-perfect team score of just 16 points.
This week's award mark the first time in Finn's career that she has been recognized as the conference's athlete of the week, despite claiming Big Ten Athlete and Freshman of the Year honors in addition to being All Big-Ten first team in 2013. Junior Shannon Osika (Waterford, Mich./Mott) was awarded the season's first conference honor (Sept. 2) after her performance at the Michigan Open.
The Wolverines will travel to Boston, Mass., for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday (Sept. 26). The 5K event is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Franklin Park.
