CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday, Sept. 16, that Eastern Michigan University men's cross country student-athlete Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) has been named the MAC Runner of the Week. The award marks the first of Fink's career and the second of the 2014 season for the Green and White after Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich.-Mason) garnered the honor in the first week of competition, Sept. 4.

The junior team captain enjoyed a successful season debut at the MSU-Auto Owners-Spartan Invitational, Sept. 12. Fink finished runner-up out of 371 harriers, leading the Eagles in the 8,0000-meter course with the fastest 8k time and highest finish of his collegiate carrier in 24:39. In addition to being one of just 10 runners to keep a pace of five minutes per mile or less, Fink also finished ahead of the entire Michigan State University squad, which is ranked fifth in the NCAA Great Lakes Region.

Fink and the rest of the Eagles have a substantial break before their next competition, when they will head out to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational, Oct. 3. The event will feature multiple races, with the first gun going off at 11 a.m.
