Detroit Mercy - Creagh Leads Four Runners In Top 10 At Golden Grizzly Open

ROCHESTER, Mich. (8/29/2014) -- Senior Colin Creagh made a successful return to the course as the veteran powered his was to a runner-up effort as the University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team its 50th season on Friday at the Golden Grizzly Open.

The 6k race was held on the campus of Oakland University as the red, white and blue claimed second place with 29 points, just two shy of its' nearby rival.

Creagh – who missed all of 2013 with an injury - was one of four Titans in the top 10 as he posted a career-best 18:53.

Freshman Ben Kendell was upfront for the entire race as the rookie put together a great collegiate debut taking fourth in 19:05.

Another Titan making a comeback after redshirting last cross country with an injury was sophomore Ryan Leahy and the second-year harrier claimed eighth in 19:31, while 2013 All-Horizon League Second Team member junior Derek Gielarowski was right behind him in ninth at 19:37.

Junior George Holman finished in 14th place with a time of 19:56 and freshman Charlie Felton made his Titan debut with a run of 20:03 for 15th. Also in the top 25 was junior Austin Wigent as he placed 21st in 20:35 and senior Ylli Alla recorded a 20:57, good for 24th.

The Titans will get back to work tomorrow with a practice as they begin training for their next event in the 28th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational, which is scheduled for next Saturday, Sept. 6, at Cass Benton Park in Northville.

The day will start with the men's and women's 5k open races at 9:30 a.m., followed by the annual middle school races and the Tommy Titan Future Legends Kid's Race. The women's collegiate 5k is slated for 11:15 a.m., while the men's 4-mile is set for 11:45 a.m.
