JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Western Michigan track and field's Andrea Hiler advanced to the NCAA Championships after breaking her own school record in the discus and finishing 10th at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Friday evening.
The Watervliet, Mich., native threw a personal-best 54.41m (176-9) to take 10th overall and advance on to the University of Oregon beginning June 11.
"Everything lined up in my technique perfectly," said Hiler. "This has been the most difficult discus competition I've ever competed in and I'm so proud of myself for stepping up to the plate."
Hiler, who also competes in the shot put on Saturday afternoon, doesn't plan on changing anything for the NCAA Championships.
"I plan to just do the same thing I've been doing," Hiler added. "I've got to stay relaxed and just do the best I can."
