TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team competed in a handful events on Friday, May 9, at the Toledo Invitational. Many of the Eagles either recorded personal-bests or came within close range of their record marks in the week leading up to the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Senior Tiara Oates (Rochester, Mich.-Stoney Creek) notched the highest placement for the Green and White after finishing runner-up in the long jump. Oates jumped a personal-best 5.71 meters/18 feet 8.75-inches, adding five inches to her previous mark for the second-place finish. Behind Oates was rookie Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich.-Grand Rapids Christian) in fourth, whose jump of 5.55 meters/18 feet 2.50 inches was just over one inch shy of her personal best. In the triple jump, freshman Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Chartiers Valley) tacked on over two feet to her mark with a distance of 11.13 meters/36 feet 6.25-inches, good for fifth place.
In the final event on the field, Lydia Gomez-Diaz (Tarragona, Spain-IES Collblanc) took fifth with a throw of 51.96 meter/170 feet 5-inches. Adrienne Waisner (Napleon, Ohio-Napoleon) came within one inch of her record mark, throwing for 48.55 meters/159 feet 3-inches. On the track, the pair of Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Adrian Wilcox) and Agata Klimovich (Minsk, Belarus-Minsk School of Olympic Reserve) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400m dash. Hardiman crossed the line at 58.06, while her Belarusian teammate finished in a personal-best 58.13 seconds. The Eagles competed in one more event, as the trio of Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing CC)), Marina Manjon-Rivadulla (Barcelona, Spain-Escola University) and Rebecca Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) ran in the 800m. Knoll set the pace for the team at 2:15.93 to finish ninth and was followed by Manjon-Rivadulla in 2:16.29. Quaintance rounded out the group in 2:24.04.
