CMU - Track and Field Preps for Busy Three-Meet Weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Members of the Central Michigan University track and field team will head to three different locales this weekend as the season builds momentum to the league and national championships.
“The nice thing about this weekend is it will allow every healthy student-athlete on our team an opportunity to compete,” CMU coach Mark Guthrie said. “That’s big in their growth and development.”
The bulk of the CMU team will make the relatively short trip to Hillsdale College to partake in the Gina Relays.
Most of the Chippewa distance personnel and the women’s 1600-meter relay team will run in the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Chippewa throwers will head to the Triton Invitational at the University of California-San Diego.
“Across the NCAA world, that is known as the best throwing meet in the country,” Guthrie said of the Triton. “They need to be out there for a couple reasons. They’re going to see competition better than themselves and it’s the who’s who, not only of the collegiate throwing world, but of the professional throwing world.
“That’s why you go to this meet. And, it’s in San Diego, so they’re going to have great conditions.”
The Chippewas are scheduled to partake in the prestigious and highly competitive Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University on Saturday, May 3.
The Mid-American Conference Championship is scheduled for May 15-17 at the University of Ohio, and the NCAA Championships begin on May 29 in Jacksonville, Florida.
