LSSU - Lakers win eight events at Northwood Open

MIDLAND - Lake Superior State won three women's events and five men's events at Saturday's Northwood Open Track and Field Meet.
Jasmine Mata won the women's 100-meter dash in :12.75 and finished second behind teammate Leslie Mitchell in the 200-meter dash. Mitchell clocked a time of :25.62 in the 200, while Mata followed in :26.08.
Sashawna Bennett posted the other women's win, taking the 100-meter hurdles in :15.33. Mitchell finished second in :15.82.
Justin Dieck broke his own school record in the shot put with a winning distance of 16.58 meters. He was also second in the discus throw (44.56 meters).
Sean Seuhr took the men's 400-meter hurdles in :57.67, and Logan Boutorwick won the co-ed 10,000-meters in 36:00. Robert Valdez placed first in the high jump (2.68 meters). Brandon Hein, Yazin Joseph, Spencer Montcastle and Kaleb Schweiger won the men's 4x400-meter relay in 3:27.41.
Second-place finishes went to Joseph in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.30) and Nolin Livingston in the hammer throw (47.18 meters). Taking third were Jeremy Braman in the high jump (1.95 meters), Montcastle in the pole vault and long jump, and Valdez in the triple jump.
Adam Birkeland placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:03.87), as did Andrew Hicks in the shot put (13:02 meters) and Josh Meyers in the high jump (45.06 meters). Livingston was fifth in the discus throw (40.51 meters).
Also for the LSSU women, Caroline Strasser placed second in the triple jump (10.09 meters) and third in the long jump (4.75 meters). Rebecka Knox was fourth in the long jump. Jessica Allen took sixth in the 5,000-meter run (19:16.38).
