Calvin - Men's Track and Field Take First Place at Gulf Coast Classic

GULF SHORES, AL - The Calvin men's track and field team took first place at the Gulf Coast Classic Friday afternoon with a team score of 196 points with Spring Hill College second with 111 points and the University of South Alabama third with 32 points.
Calvin took first place in seven events.
In the 100 meters, sophomore Cole Evans (Chicago, IL/Walther Lutheran HS) took first in 12.15 while sophomore Joel Brouwer (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) won the 200 meters (23.32).
In the 400 meters, sophomore Justin Dykema (Zeeland/Unity Christian HS) claimed a win in a time of 52.79 while freshman Jonathan Schaap (Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) won the 1500 meters in a time of 4:06.08.
Junior Erik Holstege (Kewsick, VA/Monticello HS) won the 110 high hurdls (15.47) while sophomore Eric Jipping (Canton/Plymouth Christian HS) won the shot put (47-11 1/4) and senior Ben de Waal Malefyt (Midland Park, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) won the discus with a throw of 136-5.
Calvin is scheduled to return to action on April 4 when it competes in a non-conference dual meet at rival Hope at 3 p.m. (EST).
