LSSU - Lakers complete first day at GLIAC Indoor Championships

HILLSDALE – Lake Superior State’s Sashawna Bennett qualified for the finals in three events and Oshane Thomas in two Saturday during the first day of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Bennett qualified second in the women’s 60-meter hurdles (:08.75), seventh in the 200-meter dash (:25.75) and ninth in the 60-meter dash (:07.83). Thomas qualified third in the men’s 200-meter dash (:22.10) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (:06.93).
Also for the Laker women, Leslie Mitchell qualified 12th in the 200 dash (:26.04).
Kaleb Schweiger and Spencer Montcastle are competing in the men’s heptathlon and have completed four events. Montcastle won the 60-meter dash in :07.23, while Schweiger was third in the high jump and shot put.
Justin Balczak qualified sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (:08.22) and placed eighth in the long jump (6.95 meters). Thomas finished 14th in the long jump (6.51 meters). In the men’s weight throw, Nolin Livingston was 16th (16.05 meters) and Josh Meyers 22nd (14.81 meters). Adam Birkeland was 25th in the men’s 5,000-meter run (15.54.55).
