BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Western Michigan track and field team won six events and took the BG Opener title in the five-team meet at Bowling Green State University on Saturday afternoon.

WMU won the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 60 meter hurdles, 4x400 meter relay, shot put and the triple jump to distance itself from Ball State (111), Toledo (90), Bowling Green (89) and IPFW (27).

"Overall it was a much better than last week," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "I thought we looked a lot sharper even though our practice was a little messed up this week due to scheduling issues."

The Broncos took first and second in the 400 meter dash with Alexis Hull earning her first collegiate win in the race. Hull finished with a time of 57.81 seconds and outpaced teammate Rebecca Hall, who started with the lead until Hull overtook her late.

For the second week in a row Aisha Hodge took first place in the 800 with a time of 2:16.93. WMU's Ariel Arnold also took third place at 2:19.35 and edged out teammate Jordan Anderson, who finished just behind Arnold with a time of 2:19.83. Hodge also had a personal-best time of 5:01.37 to finish in fourth overall in the mile run.

"Aisha had a really good day," Lycan said. "She ran really well and that was a big five-second PR for her in the mile. I thought that Ariel and Jordan also showed big improvements from last week."

Kathryn Picket took home first place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 seconds. Artia Gun finished with a time of 9.00 seconds to take third place as well.

Picket, Anderson, Arnold and freshman Sarita Dotson also combined to take the 4x400 meter relay title with a time of 3:54.66. The Bronco "B" squad also took second place but didn't record points because only one squad per team is allowed to score in the race. That squad finished with a tiem of 3:55.36 and was led by Hall, Hull, Andrea Arnold and freshman Naiomi Dulaney.

Chiara Allen took first in the triple jump with a distance of 11.47m (37-7.50) and Andrea Hiler took first in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 15.08m (49-5.75). Chelsea Gerbers also scored for the Broncos in the shot put with a third-place distance of 12.89m (42-3.50). Hiler just missed winning the weight throw, falling .07m shy with a distance of 16.75m (54-11.50) and took second place.

Also performing well were Ann Marie Arseneau and Alex Forsythe in the 3,000 meter run. Arseneau took second place with a time of 10:27.94, while Forsythe finished just behind her in third place at 10:28.48. Sophomore Emily McAnsh turned in a personal-best time of 1:39.94 in the 600 meter run to take third place.
