The Hillsdale College men's cross country team finished in eighth place at Saturday's NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Meet, held in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The team's season comes to an end with this meet.
The Chargers finished with 272 team points, 10 behind Lewis University and 16 ahead of host school Wisconsin-Parkside. Grand Valley State edged Southern Indiana for the regional championship, 53 points to 64. Cedarville placed third, followed by Ferris State and Ashland.
Although Hillsdale had three runners finish not far apart - between 38th and 51st - the team had no one finish in the top 30, which proved costly with the team scoring format of the meet.
Junior Joshua Mirth led the team with a time of 32:38, good for 38th overall. Two places behind Mirth was junior John Butler, who finished his race in 32:42.
Freshman Joseph Newcomb is one of many promising prospects on the team, and took 51st at his first regional meet with a time of 32:55. Luke Hickman and Luke Daigneault rounded out Hillsdale's scorers at the meet.
