Bowling Green, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)--Eastern Michigan University's women's cross country team improved upon its performance from years past and grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championships with 111 points, Saturday, Nov. 2.

Junior Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42), having led the Eagles in every race she ran this season, continued her pattern as the lead Green and White runner as she claimed a second-place finish in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 21:07.79. She was also named to the All-MAC First Team for her performance. Senior Kayla Pfund (Shelby Twp., Mich.-Lutheran North) and freshman Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind.-Fremont) finished in the top-20 with times of 21:51.70 and 21:58.81, respectively.

Ohio's Juli Accurso claimed the individual title of 2013 MAC Champion after coming in at 20:37.46. The overall team title went to Miami University, who won by a slim margin of three points over the University of Toledo.

The afternoon's turnout bodes well for the future of the relatively young squad. "We've been stuck at fifth the last three years and we graduated some people off our team from last year, but we still had high hopes for this year. I'm pleased that we were able to do that; our point total was better than what we had last year and I think it's good progress for the team," commented Head Coach Sue Parks. "Today we had a much better team performance than we had the rest of the season."

Eastern will take the next two weeks off before competing in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, Friday, Nov. 15 in Madison, Wisc.
