BAY CITY, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced recently that Brent Showerman has been named the GLIAC Men's Cross Country "Athlete of the Week" following his title performance at this past weekend's conference championship meet.

Showerman won the individual title at the 2013 GLIAC Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Oct. 26), pacing the field with a time of 25:18.8 on the 8k course. He won the event by nearly 10 seconds and led a group of seven Lakers who all finished in the top 14 en route to a 12th straight GLIAC Men's Cross Country Championship for GVSU. The victory earned Showerman the honor of being named the GLIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, as well.

He becomes the third GLIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honoree this season, following Alan Peterson, who won the award twice (Sept. 18 and Oct. 2) this season.

Showerman and the rest of the Lakers are currently preparing for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship, which will take place on November 9th in Kenosha, Wis.
