ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State University and the West Michigan Sports Commission will serve as co-hosts for the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Grand Valley Track and Field Stadium, May 22-24.
The championship was originally slated to be held in Raleigh, N.C. and hosted by St. Augustine's. However, unforeseen construction contraints at the competition venue prompted the move to Allendale.
The 2014 championship will award NCAA Division II national champions in 42 events and include team champions for both the men's and women's side. In 2013, St. Augustine's took the crown on the men's side, while Academy of Art won on the women's side. Grand Valley State won the outdoor national championship on the women's side in both 2011 and 2012, and finished third in 2013. The Lakers expect to be a top contender for the crown again this season on their home turf.
Grand Valley State has previously hosted the NCAA Division II National Championship in both men's and women's golf, as well as the 2001 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball National Championship. This will be the first time that GVSU has served as host of the outdoor track and field championship.
The schedule of events and all other information pertaining to the championships will be available on NCAA.com and NCAA.org in the coming months. A list of local hotels is available on NCAA.org.
