ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Stephen Burk (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team qualified to compete in the javelin at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships, which will take place from June 19-23 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Burk will compete on Saturday, June 22, at noon CDT.
The meet will serve as the Team USA qualifier for this year's IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.
In his first season in Maize and Blue, Burk competed in the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, where he finished in 12th place. His career-best mark of 60.11 meters (197-2.5) won the javelin at the triangular meet versus Cal and Virginia.
Former Wolverine and 2012 Olympian, Jeff Porter (2004-07), will also compete in the USA Track and Field Senior Championships in the 110-meter hurdles. The senior event will be hosted simultaneously with the junior meet in Des Moines.
