Detroit Mercy Men - Ivanics Sets School Record in 110 Meter Hurdles

DETROIT (4/27/2013) -- It was the final weekend before the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships Steven Ivanics set the school record in the 110 meter hurdles at the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Ivanics had a mark of 14.62 as a host of Titans from the University of Detroit Mercy outdoor men's track and field team were in action across different competitions.
There were Titans at the Hillsdale Relays, at the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College, at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and also student-athletes from Detroit at the Lyle Bennett Open hosted by Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant.
Ivanics set the school record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.62. He came in sixth place out of 31 topping Tom Grant's previous mark of 14.66 set in 2004. Aviram Campbell (15.19) and Taylor Hennrick (15.33) were also in the 100H.
The foursome of Ivanics, Hennrick, Vince Lefler, and Campbell were in the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay at the Drake Relays and had a time of 60.37.
At Hillsdale, Joe Raffin ran 49.50, just off his personal record of 48.65, to place second overall in the 400 meters nearly beating out all 21 other competitors. Colton Wirgau also ran in the 400m with a time of 51.80.
Edwin Gay had a personal best in the 5000 meter race with a 15:02.69, which is now the new No. 8 Titan time, to come in 11th place out of a field of 118. Sam Felton (15:51.50) also had a personal best in the race.
Anthony Donald had a season-best of 55.63 to place third in the 400 meter hurdles. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, George Holman had a time of 10.04.52 making his debut in the event.
At Central Michigan, Ja'Quan Patterson had a jump of 6.96m in the long jump to come in second just off his PR of 6.98m.
Joshua Carolin ran a personal best of 4:04.31 in the 1500 meter race while Charles Anthony set a PR in the 100 meter dash at 10.76 as he placed third.
Detroit will now focus on hosting the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 3-5 at Eastern Michigan University's Rynearson Stadium. Multi-events begin at 2pm on Friday afternoon. Click HERE to visit Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championship Central.
