CMU - Lyons, Chippewas Strong at Home

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan track and field squad protected its home turf this weekend with another solid team outing at the Lyle Bennett Open on Friday and Saturday.
“Today was a complete team effort. It was the first time we have been able to compete as an entire group. It was very exciting to see the team come together from one event to the next event,” said Director of Track and Field Willie Randolph.
Senior Charnele Lyons closed out her final home meet with three first place finishes. Lyons stellar performance started with 4:34.34 in the 1500, which she followed up with a 2:15.27 in the 800m race. Lyons closed out the day running the third leg of the women’s 4X400m, which the Chippewas won with a 3:57.91 time. Joining Lyons in the 4X400m was fellow senior Jackie McEnhill, and sophomores Ravyn Baxter and Emma Fishnick.
McEnhill finished with a third place finish in the 800m race with a time of 2:18.31. Also with a third-place finish was Fishnick in the 400m hurdles. She ran a time of 1:04.71.
Baxter was able to take second in the 400m dash with a time of 58.42.
Wilkerson also finished the day with a first place finish in the triple jump (37-11.5), a third place finish in the javelin (86-03) and a fourth-place finish, on judge’s decision, in the women’s high jump (5-04.5).
Goodson followed the 4x100 with the finals of the long jump, in which she took second with a jump of 17-02.
Ritter and Hamilton took the third (25.07) and fourth place (25.08) spots, respectively, in the women’s 200m race. Teammate junior Shawntoreah Turk finished second with a time of 25.07 on judge’s decision over Ritter.
The women’s high jump was won by freshman Marseille McBeam with a mark of 5-04.5. Junior Samantha Stein also cleared 5-04.5 but took second on judge’s decision.
On the men’s side, freshman Brandon McCleese started off the men’s success on Friday with a win in the javelin. McCleese threw for 171-03.
Walderzak also took fourth in the discus with a mark of 169-00.
Freshman Dee Smith ran a personal best time of 10.77 in the men’s 100m race for a fourth place finish. Smith also placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 22-04.5. Smith ran the anchor leg of the men’s 4x100, which took second with a time of 41.32.
Powell also finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.69.
Holman won the mens' 400m race with a MAC Outdoor Championship qualifying time of 48.22.
Junior Parker Scott won the 400m hurdles with a qualifying time of 52.71, a personal best. Scott also ran the opening leg of the mens 4x400 relay for the Chippewas, which placed second with a time of 3:15.85. Scott was joined by Holman, and freshmanClinton Cargill and Ziemowit Dutkiewicz.
The meet was closed with the men’s triple jump, which was won by sophomore Michael Johnson. Johnson qualified for the MAC Outdoor Championship with a career-best jump of 46-08.75. Fellow sophomore Ryan Miller took third with a jump of 41-07.25.
