YPSILANTI, Mich. - Jeff Arirguzo earned two runner-up finishes, while Jennifer Lane and Gino Vitella each earned second-place finishes as the Oakland men's and women's track and field teams competed at the EMU Twilight Meet on Saturday at Rynearson Stadium.
"The hurdlers did very well in Columbus today as Breanna Peabody and Niklas Rippon each made some great progress," said coach Paul Rice. "We also got some great performances out of Eastern Michigan today. Again we had another weekend that was filled with bad weather so I hope we can change that trend next week going into another big weekend of meets."
Arirguzo was second in both the 100m and 200m dashes as he recorded times of 10.90 and 22.02, respectively. Lane finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches and Vitella tallied a runner-up finish in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 10 inches.
Other notable finishes for the Golden Grizzlies were Krystal Herron with a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw (89 feet), Katelynne Hartman recorded a sixth-place finish in the shot put (37 feet, 9 inches), Meaghan Ogonowski finished ninth in the long jump (15 feet, 6 inches) and Glen Scott tallied a top-10 finish in the 800m (1:57.82).
At the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by Ohio State, Breanna Peabody earned a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.61, while Niklas Rippon tallied a top-10 finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.81.
The Oakland track and field teams will be in action next weekend as the Golden Grizzlies will compete in three meets over the weekend, the Drake Relays, the Hillsdale Gina Relays and the Lyle Bennett Open, hosted by Central Michigan.
