YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – With another brisk day inside Rynearson Stadium on Olds/Marshall Track, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team completed day two as hosts of the EMU Twilight, April 20.

“We were really pleased with the quality of effort that we saw from our athletes for the two days at home,” commented EMU Head Coach John Goodridge. “Our relay teams were not our usual lineups, but they gave a good accounting of themselves.”

The two EMU 4x400-meter relay teams finished first and third with times of 3:22.56 and 3:28.31, respectively, while the 4x100-meter relay team placed runner-up with a time of 42.15.

Freshman Jeff Elam claimed the lone individual victory for the Green and White, crossing the finish line in the 400-meter dash in 49.57. Fellow Eagle Jason Ervin came in second place at 50.08.

Solomon Ijah recorded a pair of top-five finishes. The sophomore paced the Eagles in the 100-meter dash in 10.99 for third place, and he took fifth in the hurdles as he crossed the line in 14.92. Teammates Darrell Butler and Bryce Lindsey finished ahead of Ijah in the hurdles. Butler's time of 14.74 was enough for second place, and Lindsey followed closely behind in third with a 14.79.

There was a trio of third-place finishes in the field events. Chris Fischre leaped 12.38 meters in the triple jump, Travis Harris tossed 15.48 meters in the shot put, and Julius Collier made the finals of the javeliin throw, tossing 42.83 meters.

Prior to the start of the running events, senior members of the EMU track and field teams received framed jerseys in recognition of their careers at Eastern. The four EMU seniors on the men's team are: Terefe Ejigu, James Hughes, Jay Saunders and Joe Tesner. “We have some wonderful young men that have always been a part of this program. Each of these seniors has made very strong contributions to EMU track and field. That is deeply appreciated, and they will be missed,” noted Coach Goodridge.

The Eagles will break the squad up for three meets next weekend. Ejigu will compete at the Penn Relays, April 25. Other members of the Green and White will see action either at the Hillsdale-Gina Relays, April 26-27, or the Central Michigan Invitational, April 27.
