EAST LANSING/BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Valley State track and field teams continued the outdoor season on Saturday (Apr. 6), taking part in both the Spartan Invite and the Bulldog Open. The track and field teams combined for eight provisional qualifying marks at the Spartan Invite.

Two automatic qualifying marks were hit, both by senior Sam Lockhart. Her hammer throw victory with a mark of 57.98 meters (190'3") is an automatic mark and the third-best mark in Division II this season. She also won the discus with a toss of 51.56 meters (169'2"), an automatic mark, but not an improvement from her early season toss.

Freshman Laura Schroeder (51.46m/168'10") and senior Katelyn Fox (50.57m/165'11") both hit provisional qualifying marks in the hammer, finishing third and fifth, respectively.

On the men's side in throws competition, seniors Donny Stiffler (16.31m/53'6.25") and Matt Armstrong (16.28m/53'5") both hit provisional qualifying marks in the shot put, en route to finishing second and third, respectively.

The only other provisional mark on the men's side went to freshman Sean Wells in the 110 meter hurdles, who won the event with a time of 14.51 seconds.

For the women, three other provisional marks were hit in the running events.

In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Kalena Franklin finished third with a time of 13.86 seconds and hit a provisional mark in the process.

The other two provisional marks went to junior Andrea Kober in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.99), who finished second, as well as sophomore Hannah Osborn in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, who finished second with a time of 10:51.59.

In the women's high jump, senior Jennifer Fuller won the event after clearing a height of 1.65 meters (5'5") and a trio of Lakers tied for second. Sophomore Jordyn Kiser, junior Alisha Weaver and sophomore Catherine Cieslinski all cleared a height of 1.60 meters (5'3").

On the men's side, a trio of Lakers won their respective events, but did not hit qualifying times.

Sophomore Brent VanEnk won the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.72 seconds, while junior Nathaniel Hammersmith won the 200 meter dash (21.57) and freshman Ethan Barnes won the 800 meter event (1:54.26).

At the Bulldog Open in Big Rapids, freshman Alexandra Kitz won the women's pole vault with a height of 3.40 meters (11'1.75"), while junior Jake Elbers won the men's pole vault after clearing a height of 4.45 meters (14'7.25").

Next weekend, the Lakers will take part in the Sea Relays at Knoxville, Tenn. (Apr. 11-13) and also travel to Hillsdale (Apr. 13) and Western Kentucky (Apr. 13).
