RALEIGH, N.C. - Karli Keur broke the school record in the 1,500m run by five seconds to highlight the opening of the 2013 Outdoor Track and Field season as the Oakland men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Raleigh Relays on Friday.
"Today was a really nice day for our program," said coach Paul Rice. "We have never had a group this size at such a high profile meet like this. The highlight of the day was Karli racing her first ever 1500 and shattering our school record. We are looking forward to Breanna Peabody competing in the 400 hurdles tomorrow."
Keur broke Lia Jones' 1500m run record that she set last season with a time of 4:36.85 to finish runner-up in her section. Brittni Hutton and Cassandra Peterson each set personal bests in the 5,000m as Hutton finished with a 16:40.13 to 15th overall in the top section and Peterson won her section with a 18:00.90. Breanna Peabody tied a personal best in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.52 to win her heat and finish 24th overall.
