ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State track and field teams will begin their outdoor season on Saturday (Mar. 30) at noon, taking on GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State in dual meet action at the Laker Track & Field Stadium.
The women's track and field team enters the outdoor season fourth in the USTFCCCA national team computer rankings, while the men's squad is 11th.
Both the men's and women's teams tallied fourth place finishes at the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Being held in conjunction with this weekend's dual meet will be the "Fastest Kid in West Michigan" event that will kick off the competition at noon.
The competition is open to any kids in grades K through 8, and will be split up in to three age groups. K-2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th-8th grades will each have their own division.
"We are excited to have the future of track and field out to Grand Valley State to participate in our season opener for the outdoor season," said Grand Valley State head coach Jerry Baltes about the new event.
Preliminary competition for the event will take place at 11 a.m., while the final will be at noon. Any student wishing to participate can show up to the Laker Track & Field Stadium by 10:30 a.m. to register.
