MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan track and field team will be heading to Toledo, Ohio to compete in the Toledo Collegiate Challenge this weekend while two hurdlers will be competing at Texas.
“Toledo will be one of the first meets, in the still very young outdoor season, that three-fifths of the team will compete in. We are looking forward to getting some speed work for our distance runners, and some quality work in for our throwers, sprinters and hurdlers,” said director of track and field Willie Randolph.
The Chippewas will be competing against conference opponents Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Western Michigan. They will also compete against athletes from Detroit, Findlay, Indianapolis, Indiana Tech, IUPUI, Marygrove, Siena Heights, Trine, Wayne State, and Spring Arbor.
Friday's schedule includes two field events - the hammer and javelin. Men's hammer will kick off the meet at 1 p.m., followed by the women's hammer at 2:30 p.m. The men's and women's javelin will start at approximately 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
On Saturday, the field events start at noon and running events beginning at 1:45 p.m., lasting until approximately 7:30 p.m.
The Chippewas sent multi-event competitors to Texas State University to compete. Senior Emily Deinhart and junior Tim Reynolds will be competing in the heptatlon and decathlon, respectively.
The Chippewas also have the honor of sending two hurdlers - sophomore Bridget Doughty and senior Renaldo Powell - to the Texas Relays.
“The Texas Relays is a long-running prestigious meet that has a lot of excitement and talent from across the country. For Bridget and Renaldo to get accepted into a meet of that level is a great opportunity for them and the program,” said Randolph of the invite.
Doughty will be competing in the women’s 400m hurdles, while Powell will compete in the men’s 110m hurdles.
Texas relays will feature 15 of the top 25 teams on the men's side and 12 of the top 25 on the women's side.
