Oakland U - Oakland Track and Field Finishes Sixth in Outdoor Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Oakland men's and women's outdoor track and field teams both garnered sixth place in The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's head coaches and released by the league office today.
The men's team earned nine points and are ahead of IUPUI in the poll with eight points. North Dakota State was voted the favorite with 34 points and four of the first-place votes as they narrowly beat out South Dakota with 33 points and the final three first-place votes.
The women earned 26 points and finished ahead of Western Illinois with 25 points, Fort Wayne with 13 and IUPUI finished with 10 points. The Bison of NDSU tallied the top spot with 64 votes and eight first-place votes followed by South Dakota with 55 votes and the final first-place vote.
The Golden Grizzlies return four athletes who finished inside the top five in the league meet last year and five athletes who broke school records during the outdoor season including Andrew Stebbins in the shot put and Serena San Cartier in the 110m hurdles.
The 2013 outdoor track and field season kicks off on March 29-30 at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, in Raleigh, N.C. at Paul H. Derr Track.
