Northwood University - Track & Field Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships

The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the GLIAC Championships Saturday and Sunday (February 23-24).
The event was hosted by Grand Valley State at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
On the men's side, Northwood finished eighth overall with 25 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 191.50 points, followed by Ashland at 115.50. The highlight of the meet for Northwood was provided by Enock Rono. He was named the GLIAC Freshman Track Athlete of the Year for his performance in the 800 meter run. He clocked a 1:50.01 in the event, which placed him second overall in the event. Rono is currently ranked No. 2 nationally in the event, which features the top four athletes all from the GLIAC. Rono was also a part of the 4X400 meter relay team that placed third overall, joining Jacob Hurrell, Travis Blunt and Doug Lander. The team clocked a 3:14.94 to earn a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Korvon Harris placed second overall in the 60 meter dash, clocking a 6.93.
The women's team finished ninth overall with 15 points. GVSU was the overall winner with 229.5 points, followed by Ashland 89.50. Madison Pines turned in another strong performance in the 800, clocking a 2:13.30 to place fourth overall. Her time matched her own school record time, which she ran earlier this season. Pines joined Brittany Robichaud, Marsadie Cinato, and Brittany O'Hora on the Distance Medley Relay team, which placed fifth overall. Their time of 12:08.45 was a NCAA provisional qualifier. Danielle Miller ran a 17:47.46 to place fourth in the 5,000 meter run.
Northwood will compete at the NCAA Championships March 7-9.
