One Sprinter, Many Hurdles: ESPN profiles EMU's Latipha Cross (Video)

Former standout sprinter at Southfield High School, 18-year-old Latipha Cross, overcame homelessness and two bouts of cancer to earn a full track and field scholarship to Eastern Michigan University. In Cross's senior year at Southfield, she finished in second place in the Girl's 400 Meters at the MHSAA D1 Finals with a time of 55.12. In her junior year, though, she set a new All Class/All Division MHSAA record in the Girl's 400 with a time of 54.29. Cross is currently in her first year at EMU.
