Detroit Mercy - Horizon League Indoor Championships Next on Schedule for Titan Women

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (2/16/2013) -- It was the final chance to work on improving on marks in all competitions as the University of Detroit Mercy women's indoor track and field team looks ahead to the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for next weekend. The Titans had two different meets this weekend with the Grand Valley State Tune-Up Friday evening in Allendale and the Silverston Invitational Saturday in Ann Arbor.
At Friday's GVSU Tune-Up at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Sarah Martinez (5:13.18) came in 12th in the mile run while Sara Taylor (5:18.30) was behind her but both set new personal records. Martinez now holds the No. 8 Titan spot while Taylor is at No. 12.
The 800 meter run featured Ciara Curley-Poppe set a new season-best at 2:22.58 and have a tenth place finish while Haley Morairty also had a new personal watermark as she established a new personal best of 2:24.97.
Katrina Oberski ran the 5000 meter race in 19:18.17 for a fifth place finish and set a new personal record while Torrie Eger also set a new high at 19:52.30.
Titan Kayla Zauner had a mark of 2.75m/9-0.25 in the pole vault to place fifth while in the long jump, Bri Soule 5.21m/17-1.25 came in second place in a field of 10 after just missing out on the top spot on a close tiebreaker. Zauner was also in the triple jump and placed third with a leap of 10.30m/33-9.50.
The 4x400 meter relay timed in at 4:15.16 as Martinez (63.1), Taylor (63.0), Morairty (64.2), and Curley-Poppe (65.1) provided the team effort.
At the Silverston on Saturday, Lauren Berlin threw 11.81m/38-9 in the shot put but Stephanie Blanchard set a new season-best and ended up with a new indoor PR with a launching of 11.31m/37-1.25.
The 400 meter saw Alani Letang run a time of 1:02.02, Stephany Brown come in at 1:03.59, Malita Rutherford finish with a mark of 1:03.71, and Liz Arroyo clocked in with a time of 1:04.78.
The 60 meter dash had Nicole Meisner run a time of 7.75 to place fourth and claim the Titan #2 all-time mark. Garner came in with the No. 4 all-time mark behind her at 7.84 and Jasmine Greene and Jessica Doherty both had a time of 7.93 and now sit in the No. 8 position.
The 200 meter saw more from Greene as she came in fifth and set a PR with a time of 25.98.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Brandee Hart ran a time of 9.15 to place seventh.
Detroit will head to Youngstown State for the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 23-24.
