Wayne State - Women's Track Competes in DII Challenge at SPIRE

Geneva, Ohio - The Wayne State women's Track and Field team continued their Indoor season on Saturday in Geneva, Ohio at the DII SPIRE Challenge. The Warriors were part of a large field of competition and found success at various levels through out the day.

Freshman Brittany Johnson (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) took eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 2:19.89. Chelsie Fuller (Saginaw, Mich. / Freeland ) took 29th (2:28.70) and Rachael Williams (Plainwell, Mich. / Delton Kellogg) took 43rd (2:37.67) in the same race.

Brittany Johnson also won the One-Mile Run with a time of 5:09.21 with three other Warriors finishing in the top 20 of that race. Kayla Gagnon (Riverview, Mich. / Riverview) took 6th with a time of 5:15.63, Jen Rock (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) was tenth at 5:24.84 and Rachael Williams was 16th at 5:42.77.

Rock also took fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:04.03. The Warriors also placed two runners in the top 15 of the 3000 meter run with Kayla Balfour (St. Clair, Mich. / St. Clair) and Chelsea Johnson (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) taking 14th and 15th respectively with times of 10:44.59 and 10:51.57.

The Warrior 4x400 relay team of Williams, Fuller, Hannah Williams (Plainwell, Mich. / Delton Kellogg) and Gagnon took 19th with a time of 4:23.12.

The Distance Medley team of Gagnon, B Johnson, Balfour and Kelsey Chapman (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Jenison) finished third at 12:36.01.

Freshman Erika Perry (Romeo, Mich. / Romeo) took eighth in the Spot Put and seventh in the Weight Throw.

Up next for the Green and Gold will be the GVSU Big Meet next weekend in Allendale.
