Oakland University Hurdlers Lead Golden Grizzlies at IPFW Quadrangular

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Breanna Peabody and Serena San Cartier both broke the 60m hurdles record and Niklas Rippon won the 60m hurdles to highlight the Golden Grizzlies as the Oakland men's and women's track and field teams competed at the IPFW Quadrangular Saturday afternoon. Five Oakland athletes won individual events during the meet.
"I think we got out of today what we are hoping to see at this point," said head coach Paul Rice. "For the most part we had very solid performances and some nice improvements. Our middle distance and distance runners did great today and so did our men's shot putters. This next week is a big week for us again as the meet gets bigger heading to Youngstown State."
Peabody and San Cartier broke the previous 60m hurdles record of 8.75 in the finals as Peabody won with a time of 8.69 and San Cartier finished second with an 8.74. Rippon completed the sweep of the 60m hurdle event as he finished first with a time of 8.35.
Andrew Stebbins continued a solid indoor season by winning the shot put event with a throw of 49 feet, 11.25 followed by Gino Vitella with a throw of 48 feet, 2.75 inches for a runner-up finish. Karli Keur earned another first-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.69 while Jennifer Lane tallied a victory in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches.
In the pole vault, Spencer Britt earned a runner-up finish with a mark of 10 feet, 6 inches while the men finished second and third in the high jump as Jake Scheffler and C.J. Gozdor each had a jump of 6 feet, 2.75 inches. For the women, Brittni Hutton tallied a second-place finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:06.31 and Courtney Stauffer finished with a time of 2:21.21 in the 800m run.
The Golden Grizzlies will be on the track next week as they travel to Youngstown, Ohio to compete in the YSU National Invitational Feb. 1-2.
