Detroit Mercy - Greene Sets New Season-Best in 400m at IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (1/26/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's indoor track and field team was competing in the IPFW Quadrangular on Saturday and Jasmine Greene established a new season-best of 58.85 in the 400 meter race beating out a field of 14 runners.

The 400 meter race featured a Titan sweep as Greene (58.85) led the field and Shannon Marchant (60.87) was in second. There were Titans in three of the top four overall positions as Alani Letang (61.26) was fourth and Hana Hunt (1:02.25) was also seventh. Greene, Letang, and Hunt all won their individual heats.

25 laps around the 200 meter track in the 5000 meter race and Rachel Hofsess finished the event with a time of 19:15.95 to place fourth. The mile run saw Ciara Curley-Poppe set a new personal record at 5:24.31.

In the 60 meter dash, Nicole Meisner qualified for the finals with a 7.82 and Jessica Doherty also reached the finals at 8.07 along with Allison Garner at 8.12. Meisner came back with the same time in the finals and won the event while Garner set a new personal record at 8.00 in third and Doherty was fifth clocking in at 8.06.

The 60 meter hurdles saw Brandee Hart set a new season-best at 9.04 to place third while Aisha Potts-Tyre set a new PR at 9.25 in fourth place.

Potts-Tyre made her debut in the high jump for the Titans in preparation for the pentathlon and went and cleared the 1.45m mark while Stephanie Cuniberti and Hana Hunt both cleared 1.55m.

The 200 meters saw Nicole Meisner (26.06) and Brandee Hart (26.51) finish 1-2 overall and Garner (26.70) come in fifth place. Jessica Doherty (27.04) was not far behind in eighth but Meisner, Hart, and Doherty each won their heats to represent the Titans.

The 800 meter saw Sarah Martinez come in third at 2:21.38. Sara Taylor set a new personal record of 2:23.56 to place fifth while Olivia Smid (2:27.35) and Haley Morairty (2:27.64) were also in the field of runners.

The 3000 meter contest saw Katrina Oberski place second at 10:31.87.

Allyson Koglin set a new personal-high in the weight throw for a second straight week tossing a 15.65m/51-4.25 this time around. Stephanie Blanchard also set a new PR in the same event to finish sixth at 13.26m/43-6.00.

In the long jump, Bri Soule had a 5.28m/17-4.00 as she finished in first in a field of nine total jumpers.

The triple jump featured UDM place 1-2 as Whitney Rogers was in first at 10.82m/35-6.00 and Kayla Zauner right behind at 10.47m/34-4.25.

The shot put saw Lauren Berlin throw 11.79m/38-8 for a new indoor PR and a sixth place finish.

The 4x400 meter relay team had UDM win at 4:03.94 as Hart (61.2), Letang (62.3), Meisner (60.8), and Greene (59.7) were all part of that win over six other teams.

Overall, the Titan women beat each of the four other teams in head-to-head competition with scores of 81-40 over IPFW, 79-42 over Oakland, 90-36 over Valparaiso, and 88-33 over Butler.

The next meet for the Titans will come next weekend as UDM will head to Youngstown, Ohio for the YSU National Invitational Feb. 1-2.
