GVSU - Armstrong and Julson Named GLIAC T&F Athletes of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. - For the first time this indoor track season, Grand Valley State has had student-athletes honored as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's athletes of the week, sweeping the track and field awards for the week.
Senior Matt Armstrong was named the GLIAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after his performance in the shot put at the Mike Lints Alumni Open. Armstrong won the event with a toss of 17.74 meters (58'2.5"), an NCAA Division II Indoor Championship provisional qualifying mark and the top shot put mark in NCAA Division II so far this year.
Junior Larry Julson was named the GLIAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after finishing fourth in the 3,000 meter run at the Mike Lints Alumni Open. Julson crossed the line in a time of 8:17.83, also an NCAA Division II Indoor Championship provisional qualifying mark and the fifth-best 3,000 meter time in NCAA Division II this season.
The Lakers will be competing this Saturday (Jan. 26) in the GVSU Quad Meet against Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Hillsdale at 1 p.m. inside the Kelly Family Sports Center.
