UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Breanna Peabody, Niklas Rippon, and Andrew Stebbins each earned first-place finishes at the SVSU Indoor Classic, while Brittni Hutton finished first in the 5,000-meter run at the Mike Lints Alumni Open as the Oakland men's and women's track and field teams finished action on Friday evening.
"I think this week was a much better indication of where we really are right now," said head coach Paul Rice. "The training is paying off and I hope these athletes can continue to believe in the work they are putting in. Brittni (Hutton) ran a great 5k at GVSU and that should get her into some big meets late in the season and there were plenty of great performances coming out of SVSU."
The Golden Grizzlies swept the 60m hurdles at the SVSU Indoor Classic as Peabody won with a time of 8.91, followed by Serena San Cartier with an 8.93, and Rippon tallied a victory with a time of 8.36. Stebbins won his second straight shot put event in two weeks with a winning mark of 50 feet, 8.25 inches. At the Mike Lints Alumni Open, hosted by Grand Valley State, Hutton won the 5,000m run with a time of 17:08.09.
