GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Western Michigan cross country team wrapped up the Mid-American Conference Championships from Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos finished in 12th overall with Toledo winning the MAC Championship on the women's side and Eastern Michigan winning it on the men's side. Ohio's Julia Accurso took the individual championship on the women's side.
Becca Peacock and Teresa Marin stood out for WMU on a day where the team as a whole struggled.
"Becca was our top runner today," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "She did a nice job handling the tough course conditions. For Teresa, this is probably her best cross country seasons she has ever had. Those two came to run for us today but overall we just had too many people not getting it done. It shouldn't have been that bad."
Peackock finished 60th overall with a 6k time of 23:16.5. It was the first time the sophomore had finished at the top for WMU. Aisha Hodge, who had been WMU's top runner at each meet this season, finished in 67th with a time of 23:28.3. Marin, a senior, ran a time of 23.35 to take 68th. Ashley Moyer and Jeriesha Tucker rounded out WMU's top five.
WMU has a week off before it heads to Madison, Wis., for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship on Nov. 9.
