EMU Men - Ejigu Finishes Third at NCAA Pre-Nationals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Men's Cross Country team placed tied for tenth Saturday at the 75th running of the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet hosted by the University of Louisville.
The Eagles finished the highly competitive red race with 369 combined team points to wrap-up the tenth place tie with Florida.
For the fourth time in four races this season, senior Terefe Ejigu paced the Eagles placing third overall, crossing the line in the men's 8K in 23:15.7.
Head Coach John Goodridge said following the meet, "It's a pleasure seeing this team develop and to compete so well against national level competition. They really impressed me today."
Sophomore Daryl Smith finished second among the Eagles and 38th overall. Behind Smith, rounding out the scoring for the Eagles were Harry Dixon, Warren Witchell and Willy Fink, placing 95th, 100th and 133rd respectively.
#7 ranked Colorado won the team title with a team score of 78, making the Buffalo the only team to break the 100-point mark. All five individual scorers for Colorado finished in the top 25. Rounding out the top five team finishers were BYU, Oregon, Florida State and Duke.
Individually, UTEP's Anthony Rotich won the individual title finishing with a time of 23:01.0. Paul Chelimo of UNC Greensboro finished second ahead of Ejigu.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, October 19, when the Eagles host their only home meet of the season, the EMU Fall Classic. The race will take place in Denton, Michigan at the Hudson Mills Metro Park with the women's race at 4:30 PM followed by the men's at 5:00 PM.
