KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan cross country team goes to battle the best in the state of Michigan at the Michigan Intercollegiates on Friday at Calvin College in Grand Rapids.
The 5k race begins at 4:45 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's 8k. WMU is back in action after competing at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational last Saturday, where they finished in 15th place. Looking to improve WMU will be looking to three of its most consistent runners so far this season in Aisha Hodge, Becca Peacock and Ashley Moyer.
"Ashley has done a great job this year and worked really hard in the summer," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "I wasn't expecting her and Becca to be in our top five this year but they have come back and done a great job and I think are inspiring other to do well."
The top runner this season for the Broncos has been Hodge, a junior from Bangor, Mich.
"Aisha has been steady all year," added Lycan. "She has been pushing the envelope going out hard which has caused her to fade toward the end but with each race she is fading closer and closer to the finish. I think she can be one of those top 20 runners in the MAC to put herself in the position to earn All-MAC."
Next week the Broncos head to Peoria, Ill., for the Bradley Invitational before a week off and then the MAC Championships in Buffalo.
