CHICAGO - Brittni Hutton clocked a season-best time of 17:42 (5k) to finish in sixth place and Nathan Ziolko ran a season-best time of 26:01 in the men's 8k race to finish 43rd to lead the Oakland men's and women's cross country teams at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Saturday. The women finished in 12th place (373 points), while the men finished 16th (496 points).
"Our top three women raced very well today," said OU coach Paul Rice. "We have a lot of work to do with everyone else. Some of our athletes are right there, on the verge of that breakthrough (race), while others are still pretty far off. The next two weeks will be key for getting everyone back on the same page and getting our top five racing tighter on both sides."
Jami Rodes tallied a 54th-place finish with a season-best time of 18:36, and Lia Jones posted a season-best time of 18:40 to finish in 60th place for the Golden Grizzlies. On the men's side, George O'Connor crossed the finish line in 82nd place with a time of 26:32, and Michael Cox was the third-best finisher for the Grizzlies with a time of 26:51 (107th place) in the 8k.
The Golden Grizzlies will compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships next Saturday, Oct. 5, in Grand Rapids, Mich. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
