ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State cross country teams will compete at the Spartan Invitational on Friday (Sept. 14) in East Lansing, Mich. to test themselves against nearly ever level of collegiate competition as the Lakers continue to get started on the 2012-13 season.
The event will be ran at the Forest Akers East Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State.
The women, ranked third in the preseason United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, will begin their 6k race at 12:00 p.m., while the fifth-ranked men will start at 12:35 p.m. for their 8k affair.
"We are exciting to get our entire squad to the starting line together to see where we are at." said Grand Valley State cross country coach Jerry Baltes. "This will be a great opportunity to knock the rust off and get in there and mix it up with some great competition such as Michigan State, Michigan, Northwestern and Ohio State along with some other great competition from around the midwest."
Nearly every student-athlete on both the men's and women's rosters will be competing under the GVSU name on Friday outside of the true freshmen.
