EMU Lady Eagles Place Third at Mel Brodt Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Eastern Michigan University opened their 2012 women's cross country campaign with a third place team finish at the Mel Brodt Invitational Friday night, hosted by Bowling Green State University.
The Eagles finished the team competition with 72 points, just narrowly missing out on second place which went to Bowling Green with 71. Toledo took the Mel Brodt title, as the Rockets had five of the top six runners on the evening. Ball State and Madonna University placed behind EMU, taking fourth and fifth respectively.
For the Eagles, Victoria Voronko was the top finisher taking second overall, turning in a time of 18:23.00. Junior Kayla Pfund also finished in the top ten taking eighth overall with a 19:01.80.
Morgan Churchwell and Rachel Quaintance both turned in top 30 performances, as they took 19th and 26th in the field.
Other Eagles to compete were Cara Smock (41st), Brooke Sciullo (42nd), Lauren Lunsford (44th), Rebecca Quaintance (45th) and Amy Frauhammer (46th).
The Eastern women's cross country team will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Three Rivers, Michigan to compete in the George Dales Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan University.
