Eagles Tabbed as Preseason Favorites by Mid-American Conference

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday that men's cross country coaches of the conference have selected Eastern Michigan University to be the top squad in 2012.

The Eagles, led by two-time defending MAC Coach of the Year, John Goodridge, will return their four top point earners from 2011 including MAC Championship runner-up Terefe Ejigu, and All-MAC second teamer Daryl Smith.

Voted behind the Eagles were the rival Central Michigan University Chippewas. The Chippewas finished second to the Eagles at last year's MAC Championships by 10 points. Following the Chippewas the coaches selected Kent State followed by Akron, Buffalo, Toledo, Miami, Ohio and Bowling Green respectively.

Eastern was also selected by the Mid-American Conference coaches to win the 2012 MAC Championship, which takes place October 27 at Buffalo. The Eagles will be going for their third consecutive team title, as well as, their seventh in the past eight years.

The Eagles open their season in two weeks as they will compete in at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University, Friday, September 14.
