New Zealand's Nick Willis qualified for the 1,500-meter run finals on Sunday (Aug. 5) at Olympic Stadium, finishing third in heat two in a time of 3:34.70. Willis was in the sixth position at the start of the bell lap, but a strong kick on the final straightaway moved him into third place as he crossed the finish line. Former Michigan teammate Nate Brannen (Canada) joined Willis in heat two, placing 12th in a time of 3:39.26. Brannen was sitting in the middle of the pack on lap three but was unable to recover after a fall on the back stretch sent him to the back of the pack. Willis, the 2008 Olympic silver medalist, will now compete in the 1,500 meter finals on Tuesday (Aug. 7) at 4:15 p.m. EDT.
