Michigan Olympic Updates: Men's Track & Field

Former Michigan teammates Nick Willis (New Zealand) and Nate Brannen (Canada) each qualified for the 1,500-meter run semifinals on Friday (Aug. 3) at Olympic Stadium. Willis took first place in the third and final heat in a time of 3:40.92 to guarantee his spot in the semis. The New Zealand team captain sat in fifth place after the first lap and moved his way into the lead for good by the bell lap. In the second heat, Brannen was in sixth place at the start of the bell lap and a strong kick on the final straightaway moved him into fifth place with a time of 3:39.95. Ciaran O'Lionaird (2007-09), who ran his first three collegiate seasons at Michigan, represented Ireland in the 1,500m, finishing 13th in heat three in a time of 3:48.35.
