DES MOINES, Iowa -- University of Michigan men's track and field sophomore Ali Arastu (Northville, Mich./Northville) was one spot shy of qualifying for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday (June 6) at Drake University's Drake Stadium.

Arastu finished fourth in his heat and ninth overall in a time of 50.26, just 0.05 seconds behind Ohio State's Antonio Blanks, who clinched the last spot in the finals. Arastu's performance earned him a spot on the All-America second team and was a 15-spot improvement from the 2011 NCAA Championships, where he placed 24th.

Fifth-year senior Craig Forys (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck), as well as the 4x400-meter relay, will be in action tomorrow (Thursday, June 7). Forys will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals at 7:25 p.m. CDT, while the relay will run at 8:05 p.m. CDT. The top five steeplers in each of the two heats, plus the next four best times, will advance to the finals on Saturday (June 9). The top two relays in each of the three heats plus the next two best times will advance to Saturday's finals.
