LSSU - Mitchell qualifies fifth in NCAA 100-meter dash

PUEBLO, Colo. - Lake Superior State's Leslie Mitchell clocked a time of :11.87 to qualify fifth in the women's 100-meter dash preliminaries Thursday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo.
Mitchell is one of nine 100-meter dash finalists who will compete again Saturday. She will compete in the women's 200-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles preliminaries today.
Teammate Shashawna Bennett finished 21st in the 100 prelimins with a time of :12.10. She will also compete in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries today.
LSSU's Justin Balczak is third in the men's decathlon following the first day of competition. He has 3,809 points and trails first-place Darious Walker of Central Missouri State by 147 points.
Balczak won the decathlon high jump with a height of 2.04 meters (6-8 1/4) and placed third in the shot put. He was fourth in the 400-meter dash, fifth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the long jump.
