05/24/2012 – The men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals in Marion, Indiana today. The Saints not only battled the NAIA's best, but also encountered warm and windy conditions in the region.
The women's 4x100 meter relay (Koenig, Kolnitys, DeStefano, and Hall) received a bye to the semifinal round, while the men posted a time of 41.36 to advance to Friday's semifinal. Garvey, Parminter, Sanders and McKinney had the 12th fastest time in the preliminary round. A clock malfunction during the women's 100 meter hurdle will give Erika Heston another crack at her specialty tomorrow. Joordn Hall and Sam DeStefano competed in the women's 100 meter, but failed to advance to the next round . Caleb Uecker-Herman placed 22nd in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.51.
Emily Smith placed 16th in the Hammer (148-9), while fellow thrower, Joe Stachowicz, finished in 20th place with a toss of 166-0. Sophomore pole vaulter, Alica Dorko missed the opening height in the women's pole vault.
The men's 4x800 meter relay (Thelen, Gunneson, Heiler and Teachout) placed second in their heat with a time of 7:41.30. The performance was the second fastest time in school history and qualifies the Saints for tomorrow's final.
Alina Dhaseleer placed 12th in the women's 10,000 meter with a time of 38:24.
The Saints will return to action tomorrow in the men's and women's 4x100 semi-finals, men's high jump final and the men's 4x800 meter final.
