GVSU - Laker Men Compete at Day One of National Championship

PUEBLO, Colo. - The 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship got under way at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on Thursday (May 24) and the 15th-ranked Grand Valley State men's team had multiple athletes competing on the first day of competition.

 In one of two finals competition of the day for the Laker men, junior Andrew Gorley (Novi, Mich./Northville) placed 10th in the hammer throw, the highest-finishing Laker of the day. Gorley recorded a toss of 59.83 meters (196'3").

 Senior Anthony Witt (Jasonville, Ind./Shakamak) took part in the other final on the day, finishing 11th in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 32:16.84.

 In preliminary competition, senior Jeff Nordquist (Kalamazoo, Mich./Parchment) finished just outside the top 12 who advanced to the finals in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, placing 13th with a time of 9:48.38.

 Sophomore Logan Hoffman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia) finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.15 seconds,

 The Lakers were unable to register any points on day one of competition, but will have redshirt freshman Trent Chappell (Jenison, Mich.) competing in the men's high jump finals on Friday (May 25).
