EMU - Two Move Forward in Day One of NCAA East Preliminary Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team had three members of its team compete Thursday, May 24, in the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. Beverly Elcock, Asia Rawls and Shantavia Williams all competed in different events Thursday afternoon, with two qualifying for the next round of their respected events.
Elcock was unable to qualify for the next round of the 800-meter as she ran a 2:08.56, which was good for 31st overall.
Rawls qualified for the 400-meter hurdles' quarterfinal round of the NCAA East Preliminaries Friday evening at 7:45 p.m. She completed the distance with the 10th best time, 58.51, in the 48-woman pool.
Williams earned a nod into the quarterfinals of the 400-meter dash by completing the race in 53.33. Her time was the 14th-best in the 48-woman field. The quarterfinal race is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. tomorrow, May 25.
Also competing in Friday's action for the Eagles will be Victoria Voronko who qualified with a 10:33.50 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays, April 26-28. Voronko is seeded 48th for the race which is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to its work on Friday, the Green and White will have a pair of athletes competing in the hammer throw at the NCAA East Preliminary Round Saturday, May 26. True freshman Lydia Gomez-Diaz is seeded 20th after tossing an EMU record of 190-feet and 10-inches in the hammer throw at the Outdoor MAC Championships, while Angela Scarber's throw of 187-feet and six-inches, a personal-best, earned the 27th seed in Jacksonville. The hammer throw is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
